movie review- A Summer Place

A Summer Place is a silly late 1950s movie about an old love affair, a crazy mother, and a confused teenage girl. The whole movie is (basically) about sex and yet there are no actual sex scenes. (I wish more movies were made without explicit scenes and just implied what happened.)
This movie stars Sandra Dee, Troy Donahue, and hunky Richard Egan.

Three stars.

Camp Food For Vegetarians

The Pope and I are going camping this weekend on an island in the ICW with some friends. We have to pack light since we are taking our canoe over to the island. We are also thinking of going up to Pilot Mountain for some more camping for our first anniversary, June 28.
You probably know that I am a vegetarian but this vegetarian likes to eat (maybe too much). So all this camping got me thinking about some convenient, easy things I could pack to eat. I found several nifty ideas online, things that I hadn't considered.

Ramen noodles, just add hot water
rice and beans
Fantastic Foods makes tons of "just add water" items (I like their hummus and sloppy joe mix!)
one of Jon's favorite camp foods (besides smores) is trailmix
instant oatmeal
pancakes (they even make just-add-water-to-a-bottle-and-shake-mix now)
single pack drink mixes (Crystal Light or others)
hot chocolate mix
REI has a whole section of vegetarian food options

The Pope also found this website for camping recipes. Don't eat the Margarita Cheesecake!

The thing to remember with processed camp foods is the high sodium content. Read your labels, folks!

Easily Distracted

I have an AIM email account and when I go to aol.com to check my mail, there are always tons of crazy, ridiculous articles that I HAVE TO read. I end up, 15 minutes later, forgetting why I was even on the computer in the first place. Later I remember I never actually checked my email.

movie review- Mermaids

Mermaids is the typical bitter-mom-with-kids-that-moves-a-lot movie. Cher plays the mother to Charlotte (Winona Ryder) and Kate (Christina Ricci). Mrs Flax has been in so many bad relationships, when things get tough, she just picks up and moves. Charlotte is a Jewish teenager that wants to be a nun, until she meets Joe (the super cute boy from 16 Candles and Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken). Have you ever watched a movie and gotten really embarrassed for the actor/actress?
There is a quote from Mrs Flax that I love, "A real woman is never too old."

movie review- Traitor

Don Cheadle plays an FBI agent that has befriended Muslim terrorists to watch their every move and alert the FBI of any plans of terrorism. The movie really gives a (not sure how accurate) view of the Muslim culture and why they do the things they do....bombings and such. Although I do like Don Cheadle and I enjoyed the movie, there are just somethings I would rather be naive to.
Is that awful?
