This is the song my friend Tyler played as I walked down the aisle. I love Jack's mellowness.
Angel by Jack Johnson
I've got an angel
She doesn't wear any wings
She wears a heart that can melt my own
She wears a smile that can make me wanna sing
She gives me presents
With her presence alone
She gives me everything I could wish for
She gives me kisses on the lips just for coming home
She could make angels
I've seen it with my own eyes
You gotta be careful when you've got good love
Cause the angels will just keep on multiplying
But you're so busy changing the world
Just one smile can change all of mine
We share the same soul
Oh oh oh oh oh ohhh
We Share the same soul
Oh oh oh oh oh ohhh
We Share the same soul
Oh oh oh oh oh ohhh
Oh oh oh oh oh ohhh
Umm umm umm uhhhhhhmm

Our Story

As many of you know, my husband and I met online, not in a chat room and certainly not playing World of Warcraft. We met on eHarmony.
In 2005 I tried eHarmony several times, signing up for 3 months at a time. First I tried it October, November, and December and realized there were losers on the internet just like in real life. I sort of thought my money was wasted. Well I must say they have a great advertising team over there at eHarmony because the commercials got me every time! So February rolled around and I decided to try it out again. I was matched with unemployed men, poor disabled guys, single dads, the list goes on. And again I was turned off of online dating thinking I was destined to live my life like Bridget Jones. Then about September of 2006 the commercials got to me again. The (supposedly real) couples seemed sincerely happy with one another. And the guys were good looking, not trolls at all!
I had been signed up and meeting not-so-great-guys for a month when I was matched with a dude from Wilmington named Jon. Jon's profile stated he worked in "government" and his picture was none too shabby. I was sure he would close the match and not correspond with me (I never initiated matches). Apparently this Jon had a thing for redheads because just a day or two after being matched, Jon initiated conversation.
A month went by with super long emails through eHarmony, and Jon sent me his phone number. I remember his email said, "you can imagine my trepidation as I send this to you." Of course I thought that was great word usage.
I was on the way to Starbucks to meet a girlfriend and thought that would be the perfect time to give Jon a quick call. We had a great, short conversation. After that we talked on the phone for about two weeks before Jon asked about meeting in Charleston (a 3 hour drive for both of us; Jon in Wilmington and me in Augusta). We had a great weekend in Charleston getting to know one another better, geocaching, and window shopping on King St.
Two weeks later, Jon went to Augusta for Christmas with my family and then the next weekend we both went to Raleigh for Christmas with his family. We dated long distance for 8 months before I moved to Wilmington, September 2007. Jon proposed December 2008 and we will celebrate our one year anniversary June 28.

wedding update
So we have moved reception site locations. The aquarium, although amazing, was too expensive for us. Our reception will now be at the Carolina Shag Club. It's gonna be great, like a big party.
AND...someone bought our first gift from one of our registries! Yay! I get a husband and lots of cool gifts, too.
For our honeymoon The Pope and I are going on a cruise with Royal Caribbean. Our calls of port are Haiti, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel.
I am ready to be married. I am ready to be with The Pope all the time. I am SO tired of leaving his apartment at night and sleeping by myself. I'm ready for my best friend to be my roommate.

secret formula to living, anyone?
In the beginning of wedding planning you think big and grand. You think about all the great things you can buy with this money someone has so thoughtfully entrusted you with. You think about your wedding day, your groom, your dress, your bridesmaids, your flowers. This is exactly how my planning has gone.
But here it is almost 80 days away from my wedding, June 28, and I am starting to see the big picture. I have just started thinking about what comes after the wedding (no, not sex, although that's pretty great too)...things like, a house.
Jon and I went driving today looking at a few houses he has seen while patrolling. The houses got me thinking about married life and money. Right now we have a long to-do-list of things that have to be done before the wedding. I just don't know how we'll pay for it all...then we have to pay for a house, too?!
How do people our age do anything these days? What sort of job do you have to have to pay for a decent house? What kind of degree does it take? How in the world do you pay off your student loans in a reasonable amount of time? How do you pay for a decent car and all of these things?
Someone please give me the secret formula!

engagement pictures!
We got our engagement pictures back today from our great photographer.
The Pope and I went down to Fort Fisher for the shoot. We took some on the beach, where Jon proposed, and at the boat ramp.
They look fabulous. Check them out at our wedding website

invites coming soon, only 99 days left
Well guys, I picked up our wedding invitations today. They are gorgeous! It was the strangest thing to see my name on a wedding invitation. I guess that means it's official...I'm getting married. Wow!
By the way, the wedding is only NINETY-NINE days away. I need to get busy finishing up wedding plans.

Proverbs 31 woman
With the wedding coming up soon, I've been thinking about one of my favorite scriptures. Proverbs 31 is a great description of a godly woman. Verses 28 and 29 are my favorite. I hope my family can one day say those things about me.
10An (A)excellent wife, who can find?
For her worth is far (B)above jewels.
11The heart of her husband trusts in her,
And he will have no lack of gain.
12She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.
13She looks for wool and flax
And works with her hands in delight.
14She is like (C)merchant ships;
She brings her food from afar.
15She (D)rises also while it is still night
And (E)gives food to her household
And portions to her maidens.
16She considers a field and buys it;
From her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17She (F)girds herself with strength
And makes her arms strong.
18She senses that her gain is good;
Her lamp does not go out at night.
19She stretches out her hands to the distaff,
And her hands grasp the spindle.
20She (G)extends her hand to the poor,
And she stretches out her hands to the needy.
21She is not afraid of the snow for her household,
For all her household are (H)clothed with scarlet.
22She makes (I)coverings for herself;
Her clothing is (J)fine linen and (K)purple.
23Her husband is known (L)in the gates,
When he sits among the elders of the land.
24She makes (M)linen garments and sells them,
And supplies belts to the tradesmen.
25Strength and (N)dignity are her clothing,
And she smiles at the future.
26She (O)opens her mouth in wisdom,
And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
27She looks well to the ways of her household,
And does not eat the (P)bread of idleness.
28Her children rise up and bless her;
Her husband also, and he praises her, saying:
29"Many daughters have done nobly,
But you excel them all."
30Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain,
But a woman who (Q)fears the LORD, she shall be praised.
31Give her the product of her hands,
And let her works praise her in the gates.

no longer a spinster
We went out geocaching last Wednesday down by the beach. Well, unbeknownst to me, The Pope got the help of his friend Matt to set the whole thing up. (geocaching is like a scavenger hunt with GPS) The Pope told me there was a cache (treasure you hunt) at this gazebo that he had already found and told me to look for it. While I searched for a box under the gazebo, Jon's friend Matt hid behind a bush taking pictures and video of the whole thing. I finally found the box and sat down to log my find. I opened the plastic box and there was a ring box inside. I opened up the ring box and started crying. The Pope got down on one knee and said, "Is that a yes?" And I said, "You haven't asked me a question yet." The Pope said, "You are my best friend. I can't imagine being without you. I was wondering, if you aren't busy, would you spend the rest of your life with me?" Surfers started whistling and clapping for us when we kissed.
We are going to hold off on planning and just enjoy being engaged through the end of the year. We'll probably have the ceremony here in Wilmington in May or June.
