Again With the Rolling Stone

Glad to be home after work today and begin my weekend. I went to the mailbox to find another mysterious issue of Rolling Stone awaiting my arrival, only this time, thankfully, no Lady Gaga. Instead there was a man in a trying-really-hard-to-be-sexy pose, with a snake on his leg....Adam Lambert.

I do not watch American Idol in fact we don't even have cable. However, JP and I were at a friend's house for the finale of this season's Idol. Jon and I were disgusted with this eyeliner wearing rocker. Bleh! I thought that other dude had a much more "popular" persona and radio pop music. I also hate that Rolling Stone would put the makeup wearing loser on the cover instead of cute little Kris.

So I chose to post his picture, Kris Allen, the winner of American Idol 2009.

Our Story

As many of you know, my husband and I met online, not in a chat room and certainly not playing World of Warcraft. We met on eHarmony.

In 2005 I tried eHarmony several times, signing up for 3 months at a time. First I tried it October, November, and December and realized there were losers on the internet just like in real life. I sort of thought my money was wasted. Well I must say they have a great advertising team over there at eHarmony because the commercials got me every time! So February rolled around and I decided to try it out again. I was matched with unemployed men, poor disabled guys, single dads, the list goes on. And again I was turned off of online dating thinking I was destined to live my life like Bridget Jones. Then about September of 2006 the commercials got to me again. The (supposedly real) couples seemed sincerely happy with one another. And the guys were good looking, not trolls at all!

I had been signed up and meeting not-so-great-guys for a month when I was matched with a dude from Wilmington named Jon. Jon's profile stated he worked in "government" and his picture was none too shabby. I was sure he would close the match and not correspond with me (I never initiated matches). Apparently this Jon had a thing for redheads because just a day or two after being matched, Jon initiated conversation.

A month went by with super long emails through eHarmony, and Jon sent me his phone number. I remember his email said, "you can imagine my trepidation as I send this to you." Of course I thought that was great word usage.

I was on the way to Starbucks to meet a girlfriend and thought that would be the perfect time to give Jon a quick call. We had a great, short conversation. After that we talked on the phone for about two weeks before Jon asked about meeting in Charleston (a 3 hour drive for both of us; Jon in Wilmington and me in Augusta). We had a great weekend in Charleston getting to know one another better, geocaching, and window shopping on King St.

Two weeks later, Jon went to Augusta for Christmas with my family and then the next weekend we both went to Raleigh for Christmas with his family. We dated long distance for 8 months before I moved to Wilmington, September 2007. Jon proposed December 2008 and we will celebrate our one year anniversary June 28.

Video Games Should Be Shot

I despise video games. I hate the way they make my husband disappear. I hate the way these childish games make men revert back to 9 year olds stuck in front of the television, while their mom calls them to the table for dinner. What is so darn entertaining about shooting zombies, sword fighting with flying dragons, battling a foreign enemy? I think all that hype about hand eye coordination is a false something created by the same men that built the Nintendo-360-Gamebox-DSX junk.

Iced Mint & Honey Green Tea recipe

The Pope and I LOVE Sweet Leaf's Mint and Honey Green Tea. We use to bring at least 5 gallons back with us from Earth Fare when visiting family in Augusta and Raleigh. Well The Pope, being the smart guy he is, created a recipe we can make at home for a lot less than buying gallons and gallons and gallons.
We found Bigelow Mint Green Tea at Harris Teeter one day and The Pope did a little research, and lots of test batches of tea. This is what he's come up with.

12 mint green tea tea bags (6 bags per quart)
2 cups boiling water (we heat ours in the microwave)
1/4 cup clover honey (clover honey has a milder flavor so this is important)
1/4 cup sugar (we prefer to use Sugar in the Raw)

Place 12 tea bags (for a 2 quart pitcher) in boiling water and let steep 10 minutes. Remove tea bags and add honey and sugar, mix. Add cool water to tea mixture. Serve.
Honey and sugar are used to achieve the best flavor. If you use just honey the sweetness is too weak and all sugar is too sweet. Try this recipe and alter to your taste. We actually found that 12 tea bags is a little strong so we prefer to use 10.

*Remember what you learned in science class, adding hot liquid to a cold glass pitcher will crack and shatter the pitcher!

Mexican Pizza

I have been craving mexican food for a few days now and decided to try my own version of Taco Bell's mexican pizza.
This is basically how my recipe went.....

2- 8" flour or corn tortillas
can of black beans
cilantro
lime
onion
salsa
diced tomatoes
chopped green onions
chopped red bell pepper
black olives
cheddar cheese













First I made some homemade salsa (tomatoes, onion, cilantro, lime juice, salt) in my mini food processor and placed in a bowl. Then I toasted the tortillas in the oven for a few minutes. While they toasted I pureed the black beans, lime juice, cilantro, and onion. I took the tortillas out after a few minutes and spread one tortilla with the black bean puree. I placed that one black bean tortilla back in the oven for a few minutes. While that was heating up, I chopped my veggies and grated the cheese. After a few minutes I removed the tortilla from the oven and placed the toasted, naked tortilla on top of the black bean tortilla. Then I put lots of cheese on top of the naked tortilla and put it back in the oven. After the cheese was really melted, I took the tortilla sandwich out of the oven and topped it with my veggies, salsa, and more cilantro.
Next time I might try pepper jack cheese or add corn to the top of the pizza. Jon and I even just enjoyed the black bean puree as a dip with nacho chips.

Rolling Stone and Lady Gaga???

I love the movie Almost Famous, about the kid that writes about a band for Rolling Stone Magazine. Well I have started receiving a mysterious subscription to Rolling Stone. I received my second issue today with Lady Gaga on the cover in very strange attire, hair and makeup. Not to mention, the photo shoot for her looks like a bubble bath orgy! (I won't even dare post the pictures I found.) I think this magazine is probably a little too liberal for me.

Pulling this month's issue out of the mailbox I asked myself...why am I receiving these issues? who is "Lady Gaga?" and why is she dressed so bubbly? Apparently, she likes to dress in very strange clothes all the time.

Side note: My first issue of Rolling Stone was a cover of Green Day with an American flag; I thought they were British.
